Childcare Resources Helps Make Dreams Come True for Children and Families

Childcare Resources Raises Nearly $150,000 to Continue Supporting Children in Greater Birmingham

“Once Upon a Time,” more than 700 guests and dozens of Fairy Tale Characters danced the night away on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at the Hyatt Regency Birmingham, The Wynfrey Hotel. The goal was to raise valuable dollars to further the mission of Childcare Resources, a local non-profit organization that provides information, education, and assistance to children, families, and providers of child care across our Birmingham community.

The philanthropic-minded guests wished upon a star while enjoying gourmet hors d’oeuvres, high-energy entertainment and dancing, and made memories with their families to last a lifetime. Dressed in their best fairy tale costumes for Childcare Resources’ 13th Annual Fairy Tale Ball, the children and families in attendance brought magic to the evening, raising more than $150,000 through sponsorships, ticket sales, an incredible silent auction and generous donations to the agency. The entire event focused on shining a light on the increasing need for resources and support for children and families across our area to ensure every child is afforded the best start in life.

According to the 2018 Kids Count Data Book (The Annie E. Casey Foundation), more than 34,000 children in Alabama are currently living in households where their parents lack secure employment, with 266,000 currently living in poverty, and 67,000 young children (ages 3 and 4) not in school. A $100 donation to Childcare Resources helps offset the cost of one month of child care for a family enrolled in their Supplemental Child Care Program, allowing for parents to remain employed, supporting their families while providing a safe and secure learning environment for the child.

“The proceeds of Childcare Resources’ Fairy Tale Ball are essential and will have a profound impact on the lives of hundreds of families who turn to us each year for support and resources,” said Joan Wright, Executive Director of Childcare Resources. “Every dollar generated allows for more of our resources to be shared with the community. The Fairy Tale Ball allows us to further our mission and continue ensuring children have every opportunity to succeed in both school and life.”

During the enchanting evening, Joshua D. Jones was honored with the Childcare Resources Award of Distinction for his longstanding commitment to children and families across

our area.
