Cinco de Mayo marks an important moment in history for many people and is a day of celebration for millions around the world. With the holiday coming up, now is a great time to introduce children to new cultures and traditions they might not be familiar with. Here are some activities you can do in the classroom or the living room that children are sure to love!



Read a Cinco de Mayo Themed Book

Reading a Cinco de Mayo themed book is a great way to introduce children to the holiday while building on their reading skills! Books like Cinco De Mouse-o and Little Mama Forgets are some lovely children’s books that will both entertain and educate.





Create the Mexican Flag

Grab the construction paper and glue! This simple project is a perfect craft to go along with Cinco de Mayo. Have your children put together their own flag while you teach them about its history and what the colors and symbol represent. Check out this site for supplies and instructions!



Watch a Movie!

Snuggle up with a blanket and some popcorn; movies are a great way to teach children about other cultures while keeping them entertained! Movies that celebrate and portray Hispanic cultures such as Coco, The Book of Life, and Encanto are excellent movies to watch while learning about Cinco de Mayo!



Learn a Traditional Mexican Dance
