Lights, Camera, Action! Summertime Movies for the Family

Summer is made for the beach, summer camp, and spending time outside — and, when none of those are possible, it's also great for watching movies about the same activities! Here's a list of a few of our favorite films, perfect for kids of all ages, to help lift your spirits and feel the summer breeze through the big screen when you're unable to enjoy the outside yourselves. Many of these movies about summer have a great message about friendship and family, and we love that kids can learn while being entertained!

Universal Pictures

'The Secret Life of Pets' (2016)

Pets need a summer break too! In The Secret Life of Pets, Max meets his owner's new dog, Duke, and he has difficult adjusting. Luckily, the pair is able to team up to save a bunny, Snowball, from some neighborhood troublemakers.

Sony Pictures,

'The Muppet Movie' (1979)

We don’t necessarily think of this as a summer movie, but with its road trip, sunny skies, and camp out featuring the vocal stylings of Gonzo, it actually qualifies as a pretty great one in our book.

Disney

'Finding Nemo' (2003)

Given the focus on Nemo’s first day of school, it seems fair to assume the greatest clownfish movie of all time doesn’t take place during the summer. But with those vibrant coral reefs and all that beautiful ocean blue, summer sure seems like a great time to revisit Marlin and his flipper-challenged son.

Disney

'Toy Story 4' (2019)

This final installment of the Toy Story series may just be the best one yet. When a new toy "Forky" is added to the crew before a long road trip, Woody, Buzz, and the gang must work together once again to help rescue a missing toy. Great lessons and a heartwarming story make for one classic summer movie that kids of all ages will love.

Disney

'Cars' (2006)

Celebrate the good old-fashioned American road trip with this Pixar favorite. Join Lightning McQueen on Route 66 for a summertime adventure unlike any other!

Blue Sky Studios, 20th Century Animation

'Rio' (2011)

With birds with bright hues and Brazil’s eye-popping Carnival celebration, this film certainly makes me think of summertime!

Disney

'Moana' (2016)

Moana will have you and your children singing and dancing while watching this adventure. Join Moana on a quest to save the land for her people, complete with grass skirts, beautiful beaches and oceans, and water sports... all perfect for summer.
